about us

Mary Island Fishing Club was originally founded in Derby Western Australia in 1999 by a group of enthusiastic local fishermen as a place to gather and exchange fisho’s stories with a variety of small competitions.  It has since expanded into a thriving hive of social and serious fishing competitions which range from mud crab races to the biggest event of the year,  the Buccaneer Classic in memory of a local sea safari legend.

The Buccaneer Classic is held in the Buccaneer Archipelago which is a fisherman’s and sight seeker’s paradise of untouched islands, beaches, waterfalls and fishing spots. Mary Island Fishing Club also runs smaller fishing competitions that allow anglers of all ages to chase the mighty barramundi and a huge variety of reef fish, not to mention the glorious Derby mud crabs.

The Mary Island Fishing Club Mud Crab Races are now talked about Australia wide, and if you have never seen a mud crab race, this is one event you would travel far and wide to attend.  You wouldn’t miss this amount of humour and fun for any reason. Mary Island Fishing club are now in the process of upgrading our club rooms and hope to have a state of the art facility in the very near future.
